First Look: Stoneworks Spinners
Here's something different. Spinners made from stone. Mike Stone (it's the role he was born to play!) of Stoneworks Spinners takes Agate, Jasper and Jade stones and uses diamond lapidary equipment to shape and polish these stones into hand spinners. Sounds like quite a feat to me.
Without the use of sophisticated CNC machines that are able to cut metal to the exact measurements required of well-balanced spinners, hand-crafted spinners like this are a real challenge for sure. Stoneworks seems up to it though, and the result is some one-of-a-kind goodness that you won't find in the plastic and metal counterparts.
Stone is roughly 3 times less dense than steel so the weight will be more comparable to an aluminum spinner.
Stoneworks Spinners has a wide selection of one of spinners available on their site ranging from all stone bar spinners to metal framed two and three stone inlay spinners. All Stoneworks spinners house either shielded or unshielded R188 Zr02 Full Ceramic Bearings.
