Guides: How To Spin A Fidget Spinner

The good news is there is no wrong way to spin a fidget spinner. Whatever feels comfortable or natural to you is the best way to spin your fidget spinner. Sometimes different spinners dictate different approaches to spinning. Sometimes spinners are better for fidget spinning back and forth. Others are better for long two-handed spins. Larger spinners may need a ring finger flick, while a smaller spinner may be more comfortably flicked back and forth with your index finger. Below are some various types of spins I like to perform with different fidget spinners.

#1 The Flick Method

This is really the most basic way to spin a fidget spinner and the easiest spin to perform. It works with almost any fidget spinner.

  1. Grip the spinner by the buttons with your thumb and index finger.
  2. Flick forward with your ring finger (or middle finger) contacting the spinner with the top of your spin finger somewhere around the base of the fingernail generally.

Variation: You can "load the spinner up" by first pulling it back or cocking your ring finger before giving it a powerful flick forward.

#2 The Reverse Flick or Snap Method

This is exactly as it's described. Instead of flicking forward, we're going to be pulling back. This spin works great for bar spinners.

  1. Grip the spinner by the buttons with your thumb and index finger just like the previously described flick method.
  2. Using your ring finger, push against the body of the spinner so you have a hold of it preventing it from spinning pressing toward your body if you're holding the spinner perpendicular to the ground.
  3. Use a snapping motion with your ring finger towards your hand to spin the fidget spinner.

These next two ways to spin your fidget spinner are based on the previous two, just using a different grip and different spin finger.

#3 The Index Finger Flick Method

This method of spinning will work best with smaller spinners.

  1. Grip the spinner by the buttons with your thumb and middle finger.
  2. Place the back of your index finger just below the nail on top of the ends of one of the spinner's bars holding the spinner with leverage.
  3. Flick forward with your index finger.

#4 The Index Finger Reverse Flick Method

This works well with most spinners.

  1. Grip the spinner by the buttons with your thumb and middle finger.
  2. Use your index finger to press into your spin point on the side of the spinner your middle finger is holding the button.
  3. Pull your index finger in (opposite of the flick) toward your hand being careful to not press down getting your finger in the way of the spin.

This is of course all better understood by watching the video above. If you have any questions, comments or more interesting ways to spin a fidget spinner, feel free to comment below.
