News: Stirling Engines
Ok, these aren't fidget spinners, but after seeing a post on Facebook about Stirling Engines, I felt there were definitely some parallels and overlapping levels of interest to be found in these simple hot air stirling engines and fidget spinners. They both fall into the gadget category for sure. So what is a Stirling Engine anyway? Let's turn to Wikipedia.
"A Stirling engine is a heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of air or other gas (the working fluid) at different temperatures, such that there is a net conversion of heat energy to mechanical work. More specifically, the Stirling engine is a closed-cycle regenerative heat engine with a permanently gaseous working fluid."
Ok, I still have no clue. Let's watch a video of one in action.
Pretty cool. Looks like a good thing to put on my bookshelf to make me look like I'm smarter than I really am. Good news, these are pretty cheap and available on Amazon. Here are some of the better Stirling Engines for sale.
